Senior wins top PR honors

J/MS senior Kristina Amaral received her PRWeek 2013 Student of the Year award in New York in March.

J/MS senior Kristina Amaral is PRWeek magazine’s Student of the Year for 2013. She bested hundreds of students across the country in a competition run by PRWeek.

Each year, PRWeek, a weekly trade magazine for the public relations industry, honors an undergraduate student who shows outstanding ability in a range of core PR skills.

As PRWeek’s Student of the Year, Amaral earns a $5,000 grand prize and an internship with contest sponsor, the PR giant Hill & Knowlton.

At Rutgers, Amaral is president of the student-organized Rutgers Against Hunger (SO RAH). A member of SO RAH since 2011, Amaral has been instrumental in expanding the organization’s reach to fellow students and student organizations.

Amaral played a star role in helping to develop SO RAH’s partnership with Brielle Elementary School, serving as a workshop presenter for the past two years and in the development of SO RAH’s community activities.

She has organized volunteer trips to local soup kitchens and food banks as well as a Hunger Awareness Benefit for several local food pantries.
